Constraint
Slim LED lighting had collapsed into the straight tube extrusion, the format the technology defaults to. When the light source is a thin flexible line, the easy answer is to leave it straight and let the fixture be the line.
That leaves two problems. How to give shape and form to something with almost no section to work with. And what materials bring softness to an architecture that is otherwise hard and cold.
Decision
Every light built from LED rope drapes it over a steel pole and leaves the pole in view, so the fixture reads as light hung on hardware. Helix went the other way. Winding the tubes around the support hides the steel completely, and the weave appears to be holding itself up.
Coverage is what that costs. Concealing a support is not the same as covering it, because a viewer moves: under a pendant, along a wall, past a floor lamp at eye level. The weave has to close from every one of those angles, which sets how tight the wind is and how continuous it has to stay across the whole length. A gap anywhere and the piece goes back to being rope on a pole.
The second cost arrived when the pendant became a collection. The design started as a pendant and launched as a full range across table, wall and floor, so one geometry had to hold at every proportion in it. A weave tuned to one length does not simply stretch. A pitch that reads as deliberate on a long horizontal run reads as loose on a table lamp, so what was needed was a structure that scales rather than a shape drawn once.
Finish
Paired translucent flexible light tubes wound around a linear support. Six finishes across the metal parts, end caps and inner support included: Platil, Matte Gold, Chrome, Pinkrose, Smooth Black, White.
